Hello!
We spent Friday 10/25 on anchor at Wrightsville Beach NC. I made shrimp scampi for dinner and we stayed in. On Saturday morning, we put the dinghy in the water, went to a public dock, and took a long walk on the beach. The area we were in was mostly homes and condos.
Around noon, we took off and headed toward Southport NC. We ended up with wind against the current in an open bay, which was a bit rough but as we turned the corner to the West, it settled down.
We had a two-night reservation at Safe Harbor South Harbor Marina. This is a small area with two restaurants, condos, and a park close by.
We had appetizers at the bar of the Italian restaurant https://www.josephsitalianbistro.com/. The local yacht club had happy hour, so we stopped in to check it out. After, we went back to the boat. It was a beautiful evening so we sat up on the fly bridge taking in the warm breeze and stars. We could hear this great band playing at the other restaurant onsite. https://www.rustyhooksdockside.com/
The next thing I knew, we were walking up to hear more. We danced for the next 90 minutes non-stop! The Dane Britt band was playing and they were great! At one point, Gerry was talking to his mother and gave her one of our boat cards. Dane texted us the next morning to say how much fun the band had playing with us dancing.
Sunday started rainy so we did laundry, I painted shells we picked up days earlier, and we even watched the Patriots football game! We had an early dinner at Rusty Hooks (we figured we danced the night before and didn't buy anything, we should give them some money 🥹)
Monday, we got back on the road, or ICW, and continued South. We are currently tied up at Myrtle Beach Yacht Club. It is not a yacht club, just a basic marina. Perfect fall day, mid-70’s with a solid breeze and super low humidity.
I almost forgot, that when we took off this morning, I set up the crockpot with chicken, black beans, corn, and chili mix. The boat smelled so good and wow what a great lunch. So super easy! This will be a weekly regular.
The last picture is my niece Megan dressed up for Halloween. She and her friends did a trunk or treat at Fitch HS as a fundraiser for her debate team.
Part of the fun in this journey is that we never really know where we're going or what tomorrow will bring. We plan this out by looking at our charts, reviewing cruising guides, and most importantly, gaining local intel by talking with fellow travelers. We generally have an idea of the places we want to see, but meeting people along the way has been the greatest experience so far. Never judge a book by its cover, EVERYONE has a good story (or two) in them.
Sounds like it was a fun weekend
