After one night in Rock Hall, MD we decided to head to Annapolis and try to find a place to anchor for a few days.
Rock Hall was nice, and we will go back, but as it was a Tuesday in October, and only two restaurants were open. No pictures from Rock Hall but we were able to do free laundry at Haven Harbor Marina. The marina had bicycles for us to use so we were able to explore the area. We couldn’t have found a more hospitable marine.
The trip to Annapolis was a bit uncomfortable as the wind was blowing 12-18 knots with 2’ + seas on our Starboard front quarter. Since the Annapolis Sailboat Show is this week, all marinas and moorings were occupied. This left us with the only option, anchor out somewhere. Looking at our Cruising Guide, AquaMap Chart, along with some local knowledge intel, we found a great little spot in Back Creek to anchor. There is a public dingy dock at the end of 6th Street which is about 300 feet away. Happy to be on anchor for free. We are the blue dot!
This picture is from the north looking south over the William Preston Lane Jr Memorial (Chesapeake) Bay Bridge. Very cool to travel under the bridge.
Last night we met up with Brian Petrie who is here to represent X-Yachts at the Annapolis Boat Show. We had a nice dinner at Boatyard Bar & Grill.
It appears we were extremely fortunate with Hurricane Milton. Our rental condo’s in Clearwater Florida, just off Tampa Bay, seem to have faired well. Tenants say it’s a mess outside but the structures faired well. Thank goodness. Our property in Burnt Store Marina, Punta Gorda, seems to have been saved from the hurricane and tornado damage too. It would seem that the storm “threaded the needle” for us. Lucky… We are still waiting for information on the pickup truck we brought down to Burnt Store Marina FL in September. We heard the parking lot did flood but not sure how deep and if it did reach our truck.
This morning we ran over in our dingy to the boat show and helped out the X-Yacht group with setup of their booth and show yachts. There’s nothing like the smell of a brand new boat! Annapolis harbor was bustling with people, beautiful yachts and the anticipation of the big show. This afternoon, we will probably go over to take a tour of the Naval Academy.
I cant believe it. We ate dinner at the Boatyard Bar & Grill at 5pm. Like ships passing in the night. Looking forward to your arrivial in Beaufort NC!
So happy to know your properties in Florida did well. These hurricanes are relentless.
We missed Annapolis on a recent trip due to timing but it’s on our list! Glad you made out ok in Florida!
