Huckins Yachts has been building classic, high-quality custom yachts since 1928. Known for their speed and stability, they were the choice builder for WWII PT Boats. Cortina’s layout is designed around the concept of superior performance and cruising comfort, with abundant areas to relax and entertain. Lounge in the sun on the bow or flybridge, or enjoy covered seating in the aft cockpit. With meticulous craftsmanship and exquisite wood grain finishing throughout the interior, Cortina makes the ideal spot for hosting your guests.
Gerry met Dave Eck many years ago, and from that instant, he knew Dave had more energy than anyone else he had ever known. He came home and said, "I met a guy named Dave, and boy, it’s like he sucks the energy right out of you, in a good way." From then on, they’ve been friends.
Over the last many years, Clay Burkhaulter, Dave and Wendy Eck, and the rest of the Dog Watch Crew have created a fantastic dining experience that is fundamentally built on hard work and tenacity. The Dog Watch Cafe in Stonington was the first to open. A few years later, Dog Watch Mystic opened, and Cortina, in the past few years, The Hounds, and Good Dog Charters. Gerry always joked with Dave, saying, “You won’t be happy until you have a Ferris wheel in the parking lot“. Cortina is better than a Ferris Wheel.
A couple of years ago, Dave called Gerry and said, “Meet me at a boatyard in Mystic at noon.” Not much more information than that. They go down the dock with an entourage from Dodson Boatyard walking up onto a fairly substantial yacht, and Gerry asks Dave, What are we doing here? His reply? I just bought this. You’ve got a Captain's license with enough credentials to run this? Yup…. Gerry says to Dave, “You’ve overshot the mark for the Ferris wheel”. That was the start of what has become a fun, part-time vocation for both of us. A Winter of discussing routes, customer experience expectations, and meetings with the US Coast Guard to ensure safety and compliance, a business plan was developed.
